This week we have been extremely busy with many families picking up hams, fresh produce and other delicious food to cook on Easter Sunday. Due to the rising cost of groceries at the store, and the end of the SNAP emergency allotments we have seen more families and seniors coming to the center to pick up groceries over this same time a year ago. Parents are working hard but the cost of living is high coupled with increased gas and food prices leaves little left over to purchase enough food to eat or anything extra such as birthday gifts. Earlier this week a father came to pick up groceries along with his daughter's birthday box and Nancy asked if he wanted a bike. Well, he told Nancy that his 12-year-old daughter asked for a bike, but he had no money to buy her one. As he put the bike into the car, he turned to Nancy with tears running down his face, touching his hand to his heart and saying, "my heart is happy." The truth is, we can't do the work without you.
