Will You Be a Secret Pal?

I received a call this week from Hilaria, a senior enrolled in the Senior Citizen Project. When I asked how I could help her, Hilaria told me that her daughter died on Friday. She said "people call from there to check on me. I'm sitting here feeling very sad. I just need someone to talk to."

I told her how sorry I was and we talked for a while. As our conversation came to the end, I asked "is there anything else I can do to help? We are here for whatever you need" and she said "you have already, I just needed to get this off my chest."

When I hung up the phone, I thought I could hold back the tears, but I couldn't. At 82 years old, she loses her daughter and has no friends or family to call. Thankfully she has her HSP family.

The emotional connection is incredibly important. We all need to be heard, loved and cared for.

I have an opportunity that allows you to share a connection with other seniors like Hilaria. As a Secret Pal you provide a gift card of $5 - $25 a month and can write a card to your senior. This special gift lets them know someone cares for them. It can be used to pay for medication, or something they need or want.

We need your help as we currently have 35 seniors without a Secret Pal.

If you are interested in becoming a Secret Pal to a senior, please call 630-221-8340 or email Nancy at outreach@hsp.agency and she will answer all your questions.

Our Secret Pals have always played an important role in the lives of their seniors. Now, you have a chance to brighten the day of a senior and be their amazing pal.
