Hi Friends,
We are lucky to have the most amazing people volunteer at HSP. It is time to celebrate everything they give of themselves to help those in need. April is National Volunteer Month where we celebrate the impact volunteers have on our lives and encourage active volunteerism in generations to come.
I am delighted to shine a spotlight on the incredible volunteers that make it possible to serve so many seniors, children and their families. Whether it's weekly, monthly or once a year all of these loving people are giving of themselves to make the communities we live in a better place.
It doesn't matter your age, everyone can make a difference. In fact for children that are too young to volunteer at HSP, they serve by helping their families, schools, churches and clubs collect items to donate to HSP.
Every week our amazing volunteers come to HSP to pack produce, non-perishable bags of food, bread, meat, personal care items and more. They make sure the food and essential items are prepared for families and seniors to pickup.
Volunteers are also staying busy with many pickups in the community. Every week they are picking up food from the Northern Illinois Food Bank, and grocery stores. They also travel to churches, businesses and other places within the community to pickup donations of items for those being served.
Volunteers bring produce and nutritious groceries directly to the homes of seniors and families that are homebound or without transportation. These volunteers bring smiles and relief to those with no place else to turn.
Food items are sorted and then are placed on the pantry shelves. Personal care items are put in their proper place and paper products are stocked too. Our wonderful volunteers make sure the pantry is ready to go.
Everything that comes through HSP's doors has to be sorted. Toys, books, and party items are sorted and organized ready to be pulled for children's birthdays. School supplies are put together and packed into backpacks for kiddos.
Last but not least are the hundreds of volunteers that come to HSP in the fourth quarter to prepare bags of toys, books, and packages of food for families coming at Christmas time.
And the many extraordinary volunteers that serve the families as they come to HSP to pickup birthday boxes year round, school supplies in the summer and gifts for their children at Christmas.
Rain or shine, our volunteers are serving those in need. They bring their energy, dedication, big hearts, and happy attitudes. Without all of these incredible human beings we could never give seniors, children and their families the support they desperately need. THANK YOU to all of our dedicated volunteers for making the lives of seniors, kiddos and their families brighter through your loving support.
Yours in love and service,
Kristin Senne
