Hi Friends,
We have been watching the news of the SNAP funding very closely and we have been making plans to handle the increased needs of those coming to HSP for food. This morning we held an emergency staff meeting to put additional plans in place. Over the last several weeks we have been talking with parents and seniors about how afraid they were to lose their benefits and yesterday our phones were ringing off the hook. We had a grandmother who has custody of her granddaughter tell us when she picked up groceries yesterday, that she was spending the day driving to different pantries to try to find enough food to eat.
On Saturday, 11/15 we are hosting a special food packing event from 9:00 AM - Noon and we need 10 volunteers to help the staff prepare several hundred bags of non-perishable food and personal care bags.
Over the last two years, the number of households coming for food has increased by 47%. Now with the loss of SNAP, this emergency packing event will enable us to have more bags of non-perishable food on hand so we can continue to meet the increased need of those desperate for food.
Through your committed support, much of the food we distribute is purchased, and these bags we will prepare are in addition to the large grocery packages and produce we will be giving to families with their gifts in December.
If you are interested please email Bridget, the Operations and Volunteer Coordinator at hsp@hsp.agency or call 630-221-8340 and she can get you scheduled.
Thank you for always standing beside us and for taking care of seniors, children and their families!
Yours in Love and Service,
Kristin Senne
Executive Director
